Nature Lovers and Walkers
The lakes and the whole Silverlake conservation area is teaming with wildlife, some fairly easily spotted whilst others are a little harder to find. We have families of Swans, Geese and Ducks roaming the lakes whilst the resident Exmoor ponies and cattle forage in the conservation area. A herd of deer share the site with us, although they're only spotted if you walk quietly, but don't be surprised to see their green eyes in your torch light. Although we have resident field Voles and Otters, you'll need to be very patient to see them, and every summer we're visited by families of swifts, and numerations of starlings are seen in the Autumn. In the woods you'll find the Goldcrests if you're quick of eye.
Walking routes criss-cross the site. You can walk around the many lakes and see the Roe deer and the wild ponies or you can walk around the bigger lakes via the bird spotting hides and through to Knighton woods. Bridleways surround the area and lead to miles of Dorset countryside. Plenty of Pubs & Restaurants are within walking distance, and even Dorchester or the coast are only a few hours walk away.
Our Younger Visitors
Most youngsters love messing around in the safety of the pool with the family, but we also have a rubber floored play area with lots of exciting apparatus. Lots of nature walks around the site are always popular and during school holidays special events are organised.
Pre-teens & Teenagers
After the pool and the beach, there's a large adventure play area at "The island" and even a zip wire over a small lake. A MUGA & Tennis courts together Table Tennis areas and an indoor games area should keep everyone occupied.
For Owners & their Dogs
Dog lovers haven't been forgotten, although they should be on leads at all times, there are lots of walks and even a special lake area for swimming. The Spinney has a glass balustrade around the decking, so you'll know your dog is secure and safe. Both Ringstaed and Weymouth have year round dog walking areas, although in the summer months they are restricted for the main beach. The cliffs and fields between Ringstead and Durdle door are a Paradise for dogs (and humans too).
For Fishing Lovers
There is a large lake dedicated to fishing with pontoons for relaxing until you have the "bite"and as long as you have a national licence, fishing is free. For supervised little ones, you can bring your nets to the "Island lake and try to catch the "tiddlers" or just pond skaters. Of course the crabs are always hungry and waiting at plenty of places along the coast; they've been caught before, so they know the score.
Food & Drink
The Hurricane Spa has a range of hot and cold light bites, and at peak times and weekends the Pizza Hut is operating with a selection of delicious offerings. As of this summer we will have the Firefly restaurant open with a larger range of food and drink to tempt you. Within a short drive there is a large selection of pubs and restaurants as well as takeaways and snack bars.
